The community is invited to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference by joining Urban Guerrillas and the Darebin Creek Management Committee for a special community planting day in Wollert.
This important environmental project aims to restore a degraded remnant of the critically endangered Grassy Eucalypt Woodlands of the Victorian Volcanic Plains, one of Victoria’s most threatened ecosystems, with less than 10 per cent remaining.
Participants will have the opportunity to connect with nature while helping to restore this significant cultural and environmental landscape through the planting of indigenous trees, shrubs, groundcovers and creekside vegetation. These new plantings will increase the diversity and resilience of the landscape, creating valuable habitat for local wildlife.
The morning will begin with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Elder Uncle Collin Hunter Jnr Jnr, followed by community planting and a cuppa.
Everyone is welcome, and no experience is necessary. Simply wear sturdy closed shoes, dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.
