Âé¶¹´«Ã½ College is a growing independent Foundation to Year 12 school located in Melbourne’s north. Since commencing with approximately 80 students in 2009, the College has grown to more than 1,600 students in 2026.

We are seeking a Canteen Chef to work in the school canteen at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ College. The College’s canteen facility plays a vital role in promoting nutritious food choices and fostering a culture of healthy eating within the College community. This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to student wellbeing by delivering high-quality, appealing, and culturally appropriate food in a busy school environment.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate Chef that is able to:

  • Plan and prepare halal-compliant menus using authentic recipes from a variety of world cuisines.
  • Administer daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, presentation, food costs, stock ordering and register balancing.
  • Ensure compliance with all Food Safety and Occupational Health & Safety requirements, including temperature monitoring and record keeping.
  • Prepare meals catering to dietary needs, including strict procedures for anaphylaxis management.
  • Supervise kitchen sections and staff, organise shifts, and ensure efficient and professional kitchen operations.
  • Inspect supplies, equipment and work areas, and assist with equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Cater for staff, school and community events, including menu design, preparation, cooking and service.
  • Engage positively with customer feedback and adapt meals to meet community needs and expectations.
  • Ensure all canteen operations are aligned with the College Vision and Values. 

The Person

Will need to be a seriously good chef with the added ability to oversee and run all aspects of the canteen operation.

Required Attributes for this role:

  • Passion for cooking.
  • Proven track record in a commercial cooking environment.
  • Sound understanding of dietary requirements of the different groups and age levels within the College community.
  • Strong knowledge of halal food preparation and safe food handling practices.
  • Sound understanding of Food Safety and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
  • Ability to prepare meals catering to dietary needs and anaphylaxis management.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, community-focused approach.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, structured school environment.
  • Flexibility, reliability and a professional work ethic.
  • Understanding of culturally appropriate food preparation (highly relevant in a school setting).
  • Working With Children Check.

Trade qualifications in cookery or commercial cooking will be highly regarded.
